Product schema for AI search

Product schema is schema.org JSON-LD that describes items you sell or promote: name, description, image, brand, and often an Offer with price and availability. AI assistants and search systems use it to parse commercial facts without guessing from messy HTML. Add Product on each public product or service URL, keep Offer priceCurrency and price identical to what shoppers see, and never mark up products that are hidden behind login or out of stock unless the page says so. Google may use Product markup for eligible rich results where offered; generative AI in Search does not require it, but accurate markup lowers the risk of wrong quotes in AI answers. It does not guarantee placement in ChatGPT, Perplexity, or AI Overviews.

SaaS pricing pages can use Product or Service schema with an Offer pointing to your public plan prices. Avoid stacking multiple conflicting Product blocks from SEO plugins and your theme.

Add Product schema in six steps

  1. Pick URLs that show a single primary item (product detail, plan, or service page).
  2. Copy the visible title, hero image URL, and price exactly as shown to shoppers.
  3. Emit JSON-LD with @type Product and nested Offer (price, priceCurrency, availability).
  4. Link Product to your Organization @id when you already publish Organization schema.
  5. Remove markup for bundle pages that only list dozens of SKUs without one focus item.
  6. Validate live HTML after CMS publish — Shopify and WooCommerce plugins often cache stale JSON-LD.

Frequently asked questions

Product vs Offer — which do I need?

Product describes the item; Offer describes the commercial terms. Most ecommerce templates nest Offer inside Product. Match both to the buy box on the page.

Can I mark up aggregateRating I do not show?

No. Review and rating fields must reflect visible, compliant review content. Fake ratings violate spam policies and mislead AI parsers.

Does Product schema replace good product copy?

No. Answer-first descriptions and crawl access still matter. Schema helps machines read facts you already show humans.
